Asafoetida
If you have ever had Worcestershire sauce, you have tried asafoetida, which is one of its many ingredients.
While unpalatable in its raw state, a judicious pinch when cooked imparts an oniony-garlic flavor, mainly due to the sulfur compounds in asafoetida being identical to those found in onion.
