Homemade Kahlua—Coffee liqueur 1 Comment

Dec 20, 2009

If you need a last-minute home made gift or a pick-me-up for your next dinner party, kahlua is a simple way to surprise your friends with an old classic.

The easy recipe only requires 5 ingredients and about 5 minutes of prep time. The rest just takes patience and a careful eye to monitor the brew.

The syrup mixture creates an incredible aroma while the coffee, sugar and vanilla condense into a thick and luscious base for the drink. Mix in vodka and you have an intense robust liqueur that will make you question why you’ve ever purchased commercially produced kahlua. Serve as an after-dinner liqueur or over vanilla ice-cream. Bottle in carafes or decorative bottles for gifts.

Jane Spice friendly warning: If you don’t use decaffeinated coffee, this concoction has a caffeine kick that may keep you up far longer than you’d like. I learned this lesson the hard way when not only was I counting sheep all night but reports came in the morning after a big dinner party that no one else could sleep either.

Ingredients

4 cups water
2 ½ cups sugar
3 tablespoons instant coffee
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 ½ cups vodka

Cook Time

Does it really taste like Kahlua? If it does that is a great way to convert Vodka to Kahlua. Imagine the options!
